Through a Cooperative Agreement with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), the IICER works cooperatively
with the Office of Environmental Management (EM) to provide technical and administrative support to the JCCRM.
DOE-EM and the government of Argentina (Argentine National Commission on Atomic Energy or CNEA) have established cooperative activities related to radioactive waste management problems. A focus of this work is to identify expertise in Argentina and its neighboring countries for conducting mission oriented joint projects with DOE scientists. Shown in the photograph are scientists Mario Sterba (left) and Diego Russo (right) from the National Atomic Energy Commission of Argentina. Scientists in Argentina are evaluating DOE technologies for potential application for selected Argentina radioactive waste management problems. On November 15, 2000, the fifth annual meeting of the JCCRM was conducted in Augusta, Georgia. During this meeting the Dr. Miguel Audero (Argentina) and Mr. Gerald Boyd (USA) coordinated the participation of the Argentine and US scientists at the meeting. The specific areas of discussion included:
During this meeting, project proposals in these areas were presented and evaluated for funding during FY01. Elizabeth O'Malley is the DOE-EM International Programs Manager and is responsible for coordinating the activities of the JCCRM for the U.S. Department of Energy. | ||||
