Recent research has included projects that concentrate on collection and distribution of data sets over the Internet, analysis and publication of maps for the Year 2000 census, interactive mapping over the Internet, the presentation of historic land survey records in an easy-to-use mapping interface via the Internet, and work with metadata and data stewardship.  His work has also concentrated on environmental applications addressing various topics.

Mr. Hodge has served as the Vice-Chairman for the Florida Geographic Information Advisory Council (since 1997) and was recently re-elected to a second 2-year term.  This organization advises Florida's Geographic Information Board which is responsible for setting the agenda for GIS activities within state government.  He currently holds the position of Research Associate at Florida State University.
