Dr. Oakley has over 35 years of experience in environmental research and waste management
activities with the U.S. Public Health Service, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA),
and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). His research activities have been in the areas
of nuclear weapons and nuclear power applications, risk assessment of effluents from commercial
and defense nuclear fuel cycles, environmental technology development and deployment, and related
international environmental issues.
Dr. Oakley currently serves on the U.S. DOE's High Level Waste Tanks Advisory Panel which
evaluates the safety of waste storage and treatment at the DOE's Hanford Site. Dr.
Oakley contributes to nuclear waste assessment activities of the National Commission on Radiation
Protection, Scientific Committee 87. He is also a Registered Professional Engineer and a
Certified Health Physicist.
